Bridal Beauty: Behind the Scenes with Ashley Callaway Beauty

There’s nothing quite like having your make-up done by a professional.  The right set of skills, brushes & vision can leave you feeling oh so glamorous on your big day and looking like it too. This past Saturday our editor had the opportunity to spend the morning with makeup artist Ashley Callaway, owner of Ashley Callaway Beauty as she got her bride Kim ready for her big day.

“I believe all of my clients are celebrities, so it doesn’t matter if they’re in the spotlight or an everyday women”

Her career spans from weddings, fashion editorials, runway shows, TV, film and commercial work to name just a few. She has been working with brides for years and is one of the best go to makeup artist if you’re searching for a talented professional for a wedding or special event. It was so nice to hear how Kim spoke so highly of Ashley and how she loved her spirit.  Being able to have good chemistry plays a huge part in selecting a professional for your big day.  As Ashley started working on Kim and her bridal party we all gathered around and said a prayer before the ladies got dressed.  Check out our interview and some behind the scene photos with Ashley and her lovely bride Kim:

How long have you been doing makeup? I’ve been doing makeup for 7 years.  I started out doing makeup for family and friends, than begin working for MAC and started my business in 2015.

What’s your approach when creating looks for brides? It depends on various things, sometimes I go by inspirational photos they send or even their wedding colors.

What’s the process when a bride is interested in booking with you? They schedule a bridal trial and if the trial goes well, I send a contract for them to sign.

What’s the most important piece of advice you can tell brides? Hire a professional for your makeup, let someone else beautify you for your big day.

Do you just provide services in the MD/DC/VA area? No, I also travel outside of the DMV if a client would like to book my services.

Ashley started with Kim, finished her bridesmaids and then went back to finish putting the finishing touches on her bride.

Kim’s Bridal Look: She wanted something soft but with a pop of color.

The Wedding Dress: After trying on 2 other dresses, Kim selected this off-the-shoulder white lace A-Line gown from David’s Bridal. The bodice is topped with delicate beaded lace appliques that trail onto the soft tulle skirt and the embellished lace illusion back is finished with buttoned detailing. Kim also accented the dress with a belt!

Kim’s Makeup Bag: Foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick + lipgloss (all MAC products)

Congratulations Kim!
